The Shootout is held at the end of September/first of October each year. The year 2001 event marked the 9th consecutive year. It is purported to be the largest single day bracket race, held at a temporary facility, in the country. The club, dozens of volunteers and other organizations turn a taxiway on the west side of Abilene Regional Airport into a full feature 1/8 mile drag strip, complete with timing equipment, parking, pits, seating, concessions, etc. for the weekend. All proceeds from the race (after payment of expenses) are donated to the Rotary Club - Abilene Chapter.  There are 19 images on these pages.
